Data collection

The most comprehensive data collection service in world cricket

Data collection is the beating heart of everything we do.  We have a dedicated and highly experienced team of cricket experts who collect data from cricket matches around the world, and power the continued development of the CricViz database.

We collect data on over 1m balls of cricket in person each year, as official data collection partners of a number of cricket boards.  This collection is undertaken in ground and captures full event data for every incident, including details on ball type, shot selection and fielding data.

This in-ground collection is supplemented with a global collection of every ball from every significant game of cricket, ensuring we maintain a rich data set that is unparalleled in the game.

ECB

At the outset of the 2022 English season, CricViz became the Official Data Partners of the ECB, giving CricViz the responsibility of collecting, advancing, and distributing match data for all ECB matches. CricViz collection analysts are present at more than 500 matches across England and Wales during the summer, collecting detailed information for every single ball bowled.

Our collection office in Leeds makes the collection operation possible. While our analysts are in-ground at every ECB match, we also collect a huge range of matches ‘off-tube’ in Leeds, enabling CricViz to go beyond simple scorecard data and collect advanced detail for all ECB matches.

Data collected by CricViz powers the website and official app for the ECB and The Hundred. That data is also made available to all 18 counties as well as women’s domestic sides for use in their match centres and apps, integrating with ECB partners who provide video. Subsequently, CricViz distribute that official ECB match data to top-tier media clients, including Sky Sports and the BBC.

The official data collection relationship provides the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership between the ECB and CricViz, leading into an exciting product development roadmap being delivered with fan engagement at its heart.
