Sky Sports Feature – Pakistan’s Five to Watch

CricViz data featured in Tanzil Khawaja’s piece previewing the upcoming series between England and Pakistan

Ahead of Pakistan’s visit to England for three Tests and three T20Is, Sky Sports Assistant Producer Tanzil Khawaja picked out five of the visitors’ most exciting players to look out for.

To emphasise the potency of Pakistan’s 17-year-old tearaway fast bowler, Naseem Shah, Khawaja used CricViz data that detailed just how fast Naseem can bowl. Khawaja wrote: “According to data from CricViz, his average speed during the Tests against Australia was 143.06 kph which was the fastest average speed of any bowler.”

And it’s not just in the Test arena that Naseem has shown serious pace. Khawaja also highlighted his performance in this year’s Pakistan Super League: “Should Shah make his International T20 debut, CricViz data suggests that England’s batsmen will be facing relentless pace. In this year’s PSL, Shah bowled 80 per cent of his deliveries (105 balls) over 140 kph – comfortably beating Muhammad Musa behind him with 68 per cent.”

Using data in this way helps to shape a narrative and provide clarity to assertions that would otherwise be hard to prove. CricViz regularly work closely with the Sky Sports Digital Media team to help them enhance their content with data.
